A Uganda gorilla permit is issued by the Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA), either directly or through tour companies. Uganda Gorilla Safaris are conducted either in Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park or in Mgahinga Gorilla National Park. Uganda gorilla permit allows access to the habituated gorilla families in Bwindi and Mgahinga and are given on first come first serve basis.

Tourists opting for Uganda Gorilla Safaris are advised to make their booking in time because the Gorilla Permits have a very high demand and booking in time also helps in securing accommodation in the preferred safari lodges. According to the Uganda Wildlife Authority, A Uganda gorilla permit is only considered booked if a deposit has been made on it.

The cost of a gorilla permit in Uganda is USD600 for foreigners from outside of the East African Community, USD500 for foreign residents and UGX 250,000/= for natives of the East African Community. The Uganda Wildlife Authority usually offers discounts on these prices during the low season months.

Upon successful booking of Uganda gorilla permits, the Uganda Wildlife Authority will require a copy of your Passport or proof of resident status for foreign residents for records before printing the gorilla permits.

Rescheduling of Uganda Gorilla Permits is also possible and is allowed only once and in the high season by the Uganda Wildlife Authority. Private individuals or tour operators can submit in a rescheduling request in form of a letter addressed to the Director of Tourism Business and Development at the Uganda Wildlife Authority clearing showing the reason for the proposed Uganda gorilla permits reschedule. Original receipts are required to be attached to the letter. The Director will then instruct the Reservations office to reschedule the permits to the proposed dates.
