Kwita Izina 2019 is a time-honored tradition in which newborn baby Gorillas are named. For three decades, prior to the first official gorilla naming ceremony, the Park Rangers and Researchers named Rwanda’s baby gorillas as a key part of the on-going program in monitoring each individual gorilla in their family and habitat. Akagera National Park
Depart to Akagera National Park in the Eastern Province of Rwanda. Game Drive – Akagera is the largest National park in Rwanda comprising acacia woodlands, Savannah grasslands and mountain habitats. The introduction of Lions and Rhinos, the Park is now a big Five destination. The Akagera River feeds a labyrinth of lakes and papyrus swamps making it the largest protected wetland in Central Africa with one of the highest concentrations of hippopotamus in Africa. Canopy in Nyungwe National Park
Early morning departure for Nyungwe National Park in the South-western region of Rwanda. Gorilla Naming Ceremony
Departure to Kinigi, Volcanoes National Park headquarters for the ‘Kwita Izina’ Mountain Gorilla Baby Naming Ceremony. Launched in 2005, Kwita Izina, a uniquely Rwandan event, is not only a celebration of newly born mountain gorilla babies, but also serves to raise awareness of the importance of the protection of species and their habitats at community, national and international levels. Kwita Izina 2019 will be the culmination of the week-long celebration. Evening at Red rocks Community Camp enjoying beer brewing, basket weaving, music and food tasting experiences. Gorilla Trekking in Volcanoes National Park
